About Los Altos Rod and Gun Club
Plan Your Visit
The Range does not rent guns, so bring a gun (unloaded and in a case), and your gun's instruction manual if you are not already very familiar with it.
There is little or no cellular phone service at our location. Do not rely on mobile/smart phones to meet others in your party at the range or use Uber, Lyft, or other ride-sharing services.
Target frames are wood with asphalt paper at fixed positions, and are not to be moved by shooters. To mount paper targets to our target frames, we highly recommend also bringing a stapler (or renting one at our office for $2).
Before Your Trip
Before visiting the Range, please read our Range Safety Rules to save time reading them when you arrive, and note the following:
- Each shooter is expected to know and follow safe practices for handling and shooting guns, including our rules. Our rules are no substitute for good training, so please learn basic gun safety procedures from a qualified instructor or knowledgable friend.
- Instructors may coach and/or train students at the Range, but may do so for compensation/pay only with NRA certification, prior approval of the Range Master, and proof of insurance on file. The Range does not charge instructors any additional fees, and encourages instructors to apply for approval.
- Minimum age restrictions:
- Under 21: May not coach handgun shooters; may shoot handguns only with a responsible adult age 21+ and parent's or legal guardian's presence or written permission; may not purchase ammunition for handguns
- Under 18: Must be accompanied by an adult at all times; may shoot only with presence of or written permission from parent or legal guardian and while coached by a responsible adult (age 21+ for handguns or 18+ for long guns) within arm's reach of gun used; may not purchase ammunition
- Under 7: May not enter shooting range area (may enter only the picnic/office area)
When You Arrive
When you arrive, please leave your guns in your vehicle until after you check in at the office and drive to the shooting ranges. (Please refer to the map of our facility.)
Before entering the shooting ranges down the hill to the west of the office, each person (including spectators) MUST:
- Understand and agree to follow the Range's rules (sign a release and pass a short quiz)
- Pay an entrance fee
- Wear eye and ear protection during shooting sessions, even when using scopes or binoculars
After checking in, you will be able to park closer to the shooting stations.
When you depart, you will not need to check out.
