All about Interior Marksmanship Committee (AIMCOMM)
Facility Overview
AIM-COMM operates primarily within the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) indoor facility. The environment is designed to be family-friendly, clean, and safe, featuring:
-
Live-Fire Range: A 10-lane, 50-foot indoor range.
-
Electronic Range: A specialized room for electronic training and hunter education events like wildlife identification.
-
Classrooms: Dedicated spaces for NRA-certified courses, safety briefings, and youth programs.
Range Capabilities & Constraints
The facility is optimized for small-bore and handgun calibers to maintain safety and indoor air quality:
-
Allowed: .22 rimfire (non-magnum) rifles, air rifles, and handguns up to .45 caliber.
-
Prohibited: Centerfire rifles, .17 caliber, .22 Magnum, and any ammunition exceeding 2,000 FPS.
-
Safety Requirements: All users must complete a Range Orientation and Safety Briefing before shooting. Firearms must enter the building unloaded and cased.
Services & Programs
AIM-COMM is highly active in both competitive and educational sectors:
-
Firearms Training: Offers NRA-certified classes, including "FIRST Steps" for rifle and pistol, Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) classes, and metallic cartridge reloading.
-
Shooting Leagues: Hosts diverse leagues such as Bullseye Pistol, GSSF (GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation), and Miller’s Action Speed Shooting (M.A.S.S.), which focuses on reactive steel targets.
-
Youth Outreach: A primary mission for the committee. Youth (ages 10–17) can often receive free range time and waived match fees when accompanied by an adult, provided they have completed basic hunter education or safety training.
-
Public Use: The range offers walk-in hours for the general public, typically during the Fall-to-Spring season (closed or limited in summer).
