All about Hoosier Hills Rifle & Pistol Club
Facilities
- Rifle Range: The club has a 400-yard outdoor rifle range equipped with 14 covered shooting benches, allowing for shooting at various distances and accommodating different types of firearms, with a focus on long-distance shooting practice.
- Pistol Bay: HHRP offers a 30-yard-wide pistol bay with steel targets and a range of shooting positions. This area is designed for both casual shooters and competitive events, providing a safe environment for practicing pistol marksmanship.
- Safety Equipment: Both ranges include covered benches, awnings for weather protection, and designated shooting areas to promote a safe and comfortable shooting experience.
Events and Community Involvement
HHRP hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including competitive matches, training sessions, and community gatherings. The club occasionally collaborates with third-party instructors to provide training sessions, expanding the educational opportunities for members. These events foster camaraderie among members and help promote safe gun handling and marksmanship skills.
Focus on Safety and Rules
Safety is a priority at HHRP. Members are required to follow NRA-recommended firearm safety protocols, and all participants at the range must adhere to club-specific rules, such as:
- Prohibited Ammunition: Certain types of ammunition, including tracer and armor-piercing rounds, are not allowed to prevent damage to equipment and enhance safety.
- Range Conduct: Shooters must remain behind the firing line when the range is active and must unload firearms when others are downrange.
- Responsible Target Use: Only authorized targets are permitted, and shooters must refrain from using aerial targets or other materials that could pose hazards.
