About Hastings Island Hunting Preserve
Established for the 1968-1969 hunting season, Hastings Island Hunting Preserve is a State licensed, Zone B, pheasant club located 70 miles east of San Francisco and 35 miles southwest of Sacramento. Nestled in California’s Sacramento / San Joaquin Delta on Hastings Island, this private ranch contains an expansive 4,700 acres, with over 800 acres dedicated solely to prime upland bird cover. The balance of this family farming operation is occupied by The Hastings Island Land Company, which provides a rich habitat of Delta irrigated alfalfa, corn, wheat and safflower.
Hastings Island is surrounded by river on all sides, providing you with a variety of hunting, fishing and outdoor recreational opportunities. There are activities to keep you and your family busy throughout the year. We have dog training, fishing, trapshooting, and picnicking available to our members and their families. During the spring and summer, several local dog clubs host field events.
Hunter Safety Courses, along with introductory orientation sessions are offered to familiarize new members to the Club. We encourage and enjoy family participation which support our Junior hunters, by offering activities and safety classes. Our personable and seasoned staff are dedicated to insuring your success. Please call for an appointment to meet us, tour our operations, and or ask any questions not covered in our Rules and Regulations.
Membership
Hastings Island Hunting Preserve is a non-equity, private, members-only hunting club. The Club does not offer “day hunts” to the general public, and hunters wishing to join the Club must be sponsored by an existing member.
We do this, not to discourage new members but, in the hopes that someone who is sponsored by an existing member is more likely to be a safe, responsible member of our Club. Why would you sponsor someone who did not fit that profile?
Not sure if you know a current member who can sponsor you? Contact the Club Manager for assistance.
While we are a private club, the cost of your annual membership is simply the cost of your bird card. There are no additional membership or guest fees – only the cost of your card, that’s it.
Hastings Island Hunting Preserve offers a number of options on pheasant cards. These options are designed to offer flexibility and cost saving opportunities to our members. Substantial discounts for cash and early payment are described on the second page of our membership application.
Early Season versus Full Season Cards. Don’t confuse our “early prices” with the Early Season Card. While highly discounted, the Early Season Card is for a shorter pheasant hunting season, which ends in mid-December. Our Full Season Cards are available in Early, Regular and Late Prices – depending on when you purchase them. Full Season Cards allow you to hunt pheasant for the full season, from mid-September to mid-March. Both types of card, allow you access to the Club throughout the year, but with an Early Season Card, you may not hunt pheasant after mid-December (see below).
Early Season 20-Bird Cards are a perfect choice for members willing to exchange a shorter pheasant hunting season for a substantial discount in bird price. You may purchase as many of the Early Season Cards as you wish, but keep in mind that all birds sold on these cards must be taken by mid-December (specific date is detail on the current application). After that date, early season cardholders will not be allowed to hunt pheasant for the remainder of the season, even as a guest of another member.
FULL SEASON CARDS:
Our Regular Priced 20 and 40-Bird Cards are available through September 30th. Make a deposit by May 31st and receive the lowest price for these cards.
Late Season 20 and 40-Bird Cards are available after September 30th and allow members to hunt through the end of the season.
100-Bird Corporate Cards are available at regular and discount prices. Please contact the Club Office for details.
All cards must be paid in full prior to September 30th, or the first day you hunt, whichever comes first. If full payment is not received by that date, the price will increase to the Late Card price, and interest may be charged on your remaining balance. Please note that refunds on bird card deposits will not be issued after September 30th, for any reason. If you would like to pay by credit card, we ask that you do so in person at the Club. As a security precaution, we do not take credit card payments by phone or facsimile. We do not mail receipts for each payment made on your bird card. If you would like a receipt for your payment, please visit the Club Office.
