Description
All about Elwood Conservation Club
Facilities and Features
- Shooting Ranges: ECC offers shooting ranges that accommodate firearms ranging from .17 to .50 caliber (excluding fully automatic firearms). The range prohibits certain types of ammunition, such as tracer rounds, to ensure a safe environment. Safety protocols and specific target placement rules are strictly enforced to maintain a controlled environment for members and guests.
- Archery Range: The club provides an archery range for members and registered guests, with rules prohibiting broadhead arrowheads to preserve targets and equipment. Archers are expected to follow safety rules like ensuring the range is clear and using designated target arrows only.
- Clubhouse: ECC includes a clubhouse where meetings and social gatherings take place, fostering a sense of community among members. The clubhouse is also used for club meetings and member events.
Range Safety and Rules
ECC places a high priority on safety and enforces strict rules for using its facilities:
- Safe Gun Handling: Members are required to follow NRA-recommended safety practices, which include keeping guns pointed in a safe direction, keeping fingers off the trigger until ready to fire, and keeping firearms unloaded until use.
- Range Conduct: All shooters must stay behind the firing line when the range is active. Members and guests must stop all shooting when someone is downrange, and all firearms must be unloaded and set down safely.
- Prohibited Items: Alcohol, recreational drugs, fully automatic firearms, and aerial targets are not allowed on the premises. Biodegradable clays may be used for target shooting but only in designated areas.
Conservation and Community Involvement
As a conservation-focused organization, ECC encourages members to engage in activities that support environmental stewardship and wildlife protection. The club is committed to fostering a community where conservation and responsible outdoor recreation can coexist.
