About Abilene Clay Sports
Founded in 1958 as the “West Texas Sportsman’s Club”, Abilene Clay Sports continues to offer the best in clay target shooting. As one of Texas's oldest and longest-running sporting clays range, Abilene Clay Sports has a storied history reaching back over 65 years.
The sport of skeet shooting had been around only about 28 years before Abilene’s Ira Yaw decided the folks needed a place to shoot in Abilene. Ira and his son Alan owned Abilene Marine on Tredaway, and subsequently spent a lot of time around Lake Fort Phantom. So when Ira decided we need a place to shoot, the lake area seemed like a logical place. With his dealings with the City of Abilene and knowing the right people, he negotiated a lease for property on the east side of the lake, and our club, then called the "West Texas Sportsman's Club" was formed in 1958.
The West Texas Sportsman's Club remained in that location until 1967 when additional space was needed to add more skeet and trap fields, at which time the skeet and trap disciplines moved to our current home at Lake Kirby in 1967.
The West Texas Sportsman's Club changed to the Abilene Gun Club and eventually Abilene Clay Sports in 2007. Though the name has changed, our commitment to the shooting sports and serving the sportsmen and women of West Texas has not.
OUR RANGES
While Abilene Clay Sports has been around since the 50's, we've recently invested a lot of time, energy, and capital into improving our range. We've worked tirelessly to create a shooting oasis in West Texas with sporting clays, five stand, trap, skeet, and FITASC for shooters to enjoy.
Just minutes from Downtown Abilene, you'll enjoy scenic views of everything the West Texas prairie has to offer. While shooting and enjoying the great outdoors, you'll get an amazing look at Abilene. MEMBERSHIPS ARE THE WAY TO GO
If you shoot more than a couple days a month, then you’ll save money by joining Abilene Clay Sports. With memberships starting at just $250 a year, there’s an option for every budget and every shooter. Members enjoy discounted clay prices dependent upon their membership levels. Our Platinum Members are awarded 8,000 clays up front to shoot as they see fit without having to stop by and reload their clay card each round. As an added bonus, all Abilene Clay Sports members also receive a 125 target card during their birthday month!
Beyond the discounted clay prices and exclusive members-only events, perhaps the greatest benefit of membership is being part of this fast-growing gun club. We’re a group of shooters who are working hard to make Abilene Clay Sports the perfect shooting destination, and you can take part in our mission to offer Abilene and West Texas a phenomenal place to shoot clays. PLATINUM MEMBERSHIP
For those who find themselves shooting thousands of clays each year, we have our Platinum Membership. Upon joining, Platinum members are gifted 8,000 clays to shoot throughout the year. This is a great option for families, small companies, or those who shoot often throughout the year. After the 8,000 clay allotment is used up, you'll pay the member rate of $0.38 per clay.
