Ranges and Disciplines:

The Vancouver Gun Club is exclusively focused on shotgun sports. It offers a wide array of clay target shooting disciplines, catering to different skill levels and preferences:

  • American Trap: A popular discipline where targets are thrown away from the shooter from a single trap machine.
  • International Trap (Bunker): A more challenging discipline with targets thrown at high speed from 15 different machines in a trench, in varying trajectories.
  • Skeet: Targets are thrown from two fixed "houses" (high house and low house) across a semi-circular field, simulating birds flying across.
  • International Skeet: Similar to Skeet but with faster targets, different timing, and often a more pronounced delay after the call.
  • Sporting Clays: Often referred to as "golf with a shotgun," this discipline simulates hunting scenarios with targets thrown from various positions and directions, mimicking different game birds. The club's course is set in its wooded property.
  • 5-Stand: A compact version of Sporting Clays where shooters rotate through five different stands, engaging targets thrown from various hidden machines

The club regularly hosts numerous shooting competitions, including:

  • British Columbia Trapshooting Association (BCTA) Provincial Championships
  • Canadian Trapshooting Association (CTA) Canadian Championships
  • International Trap and International Skeet Canadian Nationals
  • Pacific International Trapshooting Association (PITA) Shoots
  • Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) Shoots
  • National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) events
  • Fédération Internationale de Tir aux Armes Sportives de Chasse (FITASC) event.

They also host various charity events.

Services and Programs:

The Vancouver Gun Club provides several services and programs, especially for those new to shotgun sports:

  • "FUNdamentals of Shotgun Shooting" Course: This introductory course is designed for men, women, and juniors (ages 10 and up) to learn safe shotgun handling, loading and unloading, aiming and shooting at moving targets, and safe movement within the facility. It aims to provide a friendly and non-intimidating introduction to the sport. Due to its popularity, this course often books up quickly.
  • "Guns & Roses" Program: While details are less explicit, this program also suggests an initiative to encourage participation, potentially among specific groups.
  • Firearms Courses: The club offers Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) for obtaining a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL), which is necessary for owning firearms in Canada. They have experienced instructors who provide comprehensive training for both non-restricted and restricted firearms.
  • Membership: The Vancouver Gun Club operates as a private, members-only facility. While they do sell visitor day passes, guests typically must be accompanied by an adult member.
  • Event Hosting: Beyond competitions, the club's facilities can be utilized for various organizational and group events, providing a unique experience with shotgun shooting.

The Vancouver Gun Club is a cornerstone of shotgun sports in British Columbia, providing excellent facilities, a wide range of disciplines, and a welcoming environment for shooters of all levels.
