All about Starkville Gun Club
Facilities and Ranges:
The Starkville Gun Club offers a variety of ranges to accommodate different shooting disciplines:
- Rifle Ranges: The club features both a 300-yard rifle range and a 100-yard rifle range. The 300-yard range has fourteen shooting positions across seven tables, with movable target stands allowing shooters to engage targets up to 300 yards.
- Handgun Range: There is a 50-yard pistol range with 12 shooter positions. Firing lines are available at 3, 7, 15, 25, 50, and 60 yards, though only one firing line can be active at a time.
- Sporting Clays Course: The club boasts a 1.3-mile sporting clay trail winding through a wooded area. This newly constructed course offers challenging shots and uses an electronic clay counting system, allowing single shooters to use the course with a time delay option. A complete round consists of 50 shots across twelve shooting stations.
- Skeet/Trap Fields: There are two Olympic-style skeet/trap fields available for shotgun enthusiasts to practice their skills.
- 5 Stand ("Duck Flush"): This facility, also known as "Kamikaze Dove Field," simulates actual hunting conditions, allowing shooters to prepare for hunting season or test their skills.
- Archery: The club also includes a 3D archery range, offering both known and unknown distance shots in a safe environment.
Services and Membership:
As a private club, access to the Starkville Gun Club is primarily for members and their guests.
- Membership: The club is a member and guest-only establishment. Prospective members would need to contact the club directly for information on joining.
- Range Requirements: All shooters and visitors are required to check in and out with the Range Office. All shooters must complete and acknowledge understanding of the Range Rules and Regulations. This is a one-time process in their new system, rather than an annual requirement. Hearing and eye protection are mandatory at all times. All firearms must be handled safely, and when moving on or off the range facility, firearms must be unloaded and either cased or holstered.
- General Fees: Daily entrance fees apply, and there are additional fees for golf cart rentals and shotgun rentals. Sporting clays are charged per clay.
- Available Items: The range office sells eye and ear protection, as well as targets for pistol and rifle ranges. Shooters need to bring their own staples or tape for affixing targets.
- Payment: The club accepts credit/debit cards, cash, or personal checks.
- Hours of Operation: The club has seasonal hours.
- Summer Hours (March 1 onwards): Thursday and Friday: Noon - 6:00 pm; Saturday: 10:00 am - 6:00 pm; Sunday: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
- Winter Hours (November 1 onwards): Thursday and Friday: Noon - 5:00 pm; Saturday: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm; Sunday: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
