Facilities and Gun Ranges:
- Indoor Ranges: The centre features a fully air-conditioned environment with multiple indoor shooting ranges.
- One 25-meter range.
- Three 50-meter ranges.
- Target Systems: The ranges utilize electronically controlled target carriers that can be set at various distances, typically from 7 meters up to 50 meters. This allows for convenient target changes without waiting for ceasefires.
- Firearm Sales: There is a well-stocked firearms dealership on-site.
- Storage: Safe storage lockers are available for hire for members.
- Lounge Area: The centre provides a comfortable, air-conditioned lounge area.
- Accessibility: The facility generally has wheelchair access.
Firearms Allowed:
The St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre permits a range of firearms, subject to specific calibre and energy limits to ensure safety.
- Pistols: Up to .45 calibre.
- Rifles: Both rimfire (up to .22 calibre) and centrefire (up to .50 calibre / 12.7mm) rifles are permitted.
- Air Pellet Guns: Up to .50 calibre (12.7mm).
- Shotguns: Generally, shotguns are not permitted for use on the range.
There is a maximum muzzle energy limit of 7000 Joules (5160 ft lbs) for all ammunition used. Shooters using firearms or equipment requiring supplementary permits (like high calibre pistols or suppressors) must declare these and present original permits.
Programs and Services:
- Casual Shooting: Licensed firearm holders can use the ranges.
- "Try Shooting" Program: This program allows individuals without a firearms license to experience shooting a pistol or rifle under the direct supervision of expert range officers. These sessions typically include 50 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition (pistol or rifle), safety briefing, and equipment hire.
- Licensing Assistance: The centre can guide individuals through the process of applying for a NSW firearms license.
- Firearm Safety Courses: They offer courses related to longarms, handguns, and collector licenses.
- Resident Firearm Clubs: The centre is home to the SSAA St Marys Pistol Club, which holds competitions almost daily, including various pistol shooting matches like Bullseye, Rimfire Silhouettes, and Air Pistol.
Safety:
Safety is a top priority at St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre.
- All firearms must be covered (in a hard case or gun bag) when not on the firing line or at the counter under staff supervision.
- Firearms should only be handled on the range or at the counter/classroom under direct supervision.
- All firearms must be cleared (unloaded with action open) by a Range Officer when finished shooting or before moving between bays.
- Eye and ear protection are mandatory for all shooters.
- Enclosed footwear is required.
