All about South Kent Sportsman's Club
Ranges and Facilities:
The club features extensive outdoor ranges catering to rifle, pistol, and shotgun sports:
- 500-Meter Rifle Range: This precision range has a covered firing line and segmented backstops for both rimfire (40m, 60m, 77m, 100m) and centerfire (200m, 300m, 377m, 500m) shooting. Access to the full 500m distance is restricted to members who meet specific safety and zeroing prerequisites and is often by appointment with a certified Range Officer.
- Pistol and Rifle Bays (Bunkers):
- General Purpose Bunkers (GPB): There are 18 bays available for general member use from 9:00 a.m. until dusk. These allow for dynamic shooting and practicing competition skills like drawing, reloading, and movement.
- Match-Only Bunkers (MOB): An additional 15 bunkers are dedicated for use during organized matches to keep the GPBs available for general membership.
- South Range Complex: This area includes a dedicated rimfire rifle range (25, 50, 75, and 100 yards) and a 200-meter rifle range (50m, 100m, 150m, 200m).
- Shotgun Fields: The club has two lighted Trap ranges and two lighted Skeet ranges, with voice-actuated target release available.
Services and Programs:
The SKSC is highly oriented toward competitive shooting and offering a place for members to practice effectively:
- Competitions: The club hosts numerous shooting matches across a variety of disciplines, often open to non-members for a fee. Disciplines include:
- USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) Handgun.
- IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) Handgun.
- 3-Gun.
- Steel Challenge.
- Rimfire Challenge.
- Various Rifle matches (NRA High Power, Bench Rest Silhouette).
- Training: An introductory class (often called "101 Class") focusing on Action Pistol shooting, range orientation, and safety procedures is typically mandatory for new competitors or highly recommended for new shooters.
- Membership: The facility is generally for members-only for individual use of the ranges, with limited public access primarily for scheduled Trap and Skeet shooting sessions and organized matches. New members are required to go through a process that includes getting existing member signatures.
