All about Santa Maria Gun Club
Facilities and Ranges:
The club provides facilities for three primary shooting types:
-
Pistol Range: Features an eight-lane indoor 25-yard pistol range, which is noted for being the largest indoor pistol range on the Central Coast.
-
Trap Fields: The shotgun range features nine trap machines for clay target shooting.
-
Archery Range: Dedicated areas are available for archery.
The club also includes a 3,000 square foot clubhouse for social and administrative functions.
Disciplines and Competitions:
The SMGC hosts regular shooting events, including those affiliated with the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA). They hold trap shoots and may host other sport shooting events.
Services and Access:
-
Public Access: The ranges are typically open to the public on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and for shotgun shooting on one weekday. Non-members pay a small range fee for use.
-
Membership: The club operates on a member basis, offering reduced shooting fees and potentially extended access hours for members. Membership requires an application, a certification of good repute, and an agreement to follow all safety rules.
-
Instruction: The club offers instructional classes, including youth instruction, on firearm safety and basic techniques, often provided by certified instructors. They also aim to offer self-defense and gun safety classes to the community.
-
On-Site Services: Ammunition is available for purchase, and the club may offer food service during ATA shoots. A Range Officer is always present when the range is open.
