All about Salem Hunting Club
Facilities and Ranges:
The club provides multiple ranges to accommodate different shooting disciplines:
- An indoor 50-foot range primarily used for rimfire (.22 caliber) shooting.
- Outdoor ranges that cater to various distances, including options for rifles out to 200 yards.
- Dedicated areas for trap and skeet shooting (flying clays).
Services and Disciplines:
Salem Hunting Club hosts a diverse schedule of competitive and recreational events, many of which are open to the public, making it accessible beyond its membership:
- Rifle Events: .22 Bench Rest Shoots and a Service Rifle League.
- Pistol Events: A dedicated Pistol League.
- Muzzleloader Shoots.
- Action Shooting: They occasionally run an Action Rifle Pistol Shoot (ARPS), which is a dynamic course involving rifles, pistol caliber carbines, or pistols with elements like barricades and shooting from cover.
- Youth Day: The club holds an annual free Youth Day event.
- Sight-in Services: For a period in the fall, the club traditionally opens its lower range to the public for sight-in services to prepare for hunting season.
Membership:
The facility operates as a members-only club for general use, but it frequently hosts public events. Prospective members must apply, pay an initial non-refundable application fee that covers a background check, and then complete an interview and be voted on by the membership. Accepted members are subject to a probationary period and are required to either work annual volunteer hours or buy out of the work requirement. The ranges are typically open from morning until dusk.
