All about Red Deer Shooting Centre

Facilities and Gun Ranges:

  • Two Indoor Ranges:
    • Alpha Range: A 25-yard handgun range.
    • Bravo Range: Alberta's only 50-yard indoor rifle range, approved for all types of small arms ammunition, including up to .50 BMG.
  • Advanced Shooting Stalls: Both ranges feature custom Action Target shooting stalls with Level III ballistic protection and digital LED displays.
  • High-Quality Target Systems: The center uses Mancom live-fire training systems, similar to those found in military and law enforcement facilities, known for their durability and reliability. The Bravo range's target system allows for target movement (away/towards the shooter), flashing lights, and rotation for training applications.
  • Safe Range Design: The facility incorporates Action Target rubber berm backstop systems that eliminate lead dust and ricochet. Range baffle systems are engineered by Action Target, with the Bravo range featuring a tactical baffled ceiling for down-range movement during training.
  • Superior Air Quality: Both ranges are equipped with Engineered Air HVAC systems that control airflow and volume, ensuring any airborne contaminants are quickly removed from the shooter's area.
  • Other Facilities:
    • Retail Section: A gun shop offering a wide selection of firearms, parts, accessories, and ammunition.
    • Classroom: For courses, including the Canadian Firearm Safety Course (PAL).
    • Members' Locker Room.

Firearm Types and Usage:

  • The ranges are approved for a wide variety of small arms calibers, including handguns and rifles up to .50 BMG.
  • The center does not offer firearm rentals, so users typically need to bring their own firearms and ammunition. However, in some contexts (like for unlicensed shooters with supervision), rental firearms might be available.
  • Unlicensed participants can shoot with direct supervision from expert staff, and they typically need to be in groups of two or more. Valid government photo ID is required for all participants.
  • Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Accessibility and Membership:

  • The Red Deer Shooting Centre is open to both members and the public (walk-ins).
  • Membership provides benefits such as unlimited access to both Alpha and Bravo ranges, discounts on guest passes, priority access, and complimentary eye and ear protection. Members can also reserve range time in the Bravo range. An affiliate membership costs $125 per year.
  • The center also offers a "Local Heroes Program" with discounted memberships for police, firefighters, EMS, and military personnel.
  • Group bookings are available.

The center emphasizes health and safety, professional service, and a wide selection of products, making it a popular destination for shooting enthusiasts in the Red Deer area.
