All about Old Fort Gun Club training

Facility and Ranges

The club offers extensive facilities to accommodate a wide variety of shooting disciplines:

  • Numerous Outdoor Ranges: OFGC operates multiple dedicated outdoor ranges for both pistol and rifle shooting. These include ranges designed for pistol matches, rifle zeroing, and longer-distance precision shooting.

  • Archery Range: The club also caters to archers with a dedicated range.

  • Trap and Skeet Fields: Facilities are available for shotgun sports, featuring multiple fields for both trap and skeet.

  • Clubhouse: A central clubhouse serves as a gathering point and supports club meetings and events.

  • Secure Access: The facility is members-only, accessible via an electronic gate.

Training and Services

Training is a core component of the OFGC's mission, focusing on safety and skill development:

  • Mandatory Range Safety Orientation: All new members must complete a comprehensive safety orientation to ensure they understand all rules and procedures before using the ranges independently.

  • Defensive Pistol Training: The club frequently hosts or organizes various levels of defensive and tactical pistol training courses, focusing on proficiency in self-defense scenarios.

  • Precision Rifle Training: Instruction is often available for long-range and precision rifle shooting, catering to shooters interested in high-accuracy disciplines.

  • Holster Qualification: Members who wish to shoot from a holster on the dynamic ranges must undergo and pass a qualification process to demonstrate safe drawing and re-holstering practices.

  • Discipline-Specific Matches: Regular matches in disciplines like USPSA/IPSC, 3-Gun, and other competitive shooting sports serve as practical training environments.

  • NRA/Certified Instructor Courses: The club often hosts formal courses conducted by National Rifle Association (NRA) or other certified instructors.
