All about North Central Washington Gun Club

Facilities and Ranges:

The NCW Gun Club offers a comprehensive array of ranges to support its diverse shooting activities:

  • Rifle Ranges: The club features covered 100-yard, 200-yard, and 300-yard rifle ranges, providing protection from the elements. There are also outdoor rifle ranges available. These ranges are suitable for various rifle calibers. Steel targets are available but must be AR steel and placed no closer than 300 yards.
  • Pistol Ranges: The facility includes both covered and outdoor pistol ranges, accommodating different shooting styles and weather conditions.
  • Shotgun Bay: A dedicated single shotgun bay is available for shotgun shooting. Clay pigeons can be used for aerial targets, provided a safe shot-fall area is observed.
  • Archery Range: The club also caters to archers with targets set up at 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 yards. Broadheads are prohibited on club-provided targets.
  • Clubhouse/Pioneer Building: The club has a clubhouse lounge and likely other facilities within its Pioneer Building, which also houses indoor archery and some smallbore/air rifle junior programs.

Permitted Ammunition and Targets:

The club has specific rules regarding ammunition and targets to ensure safety and preserve the ranges:

  • "Tracer," "incendiary," or "explosive" ammunition is generally not allowed outside of sanctioned, approved events.
  • Steel-core or "penetrator" type bullets are permitted with regular paper targets but are strictly prohibited on any kind of steel target due to potential damage.
  • Targets must be placed squarely in front of a solid backstop or berm and not directly on the ground or on top of a berm to prevent ricochets.
  • Exploding or incendiary targets are not allowed outside of approved sanctioned events.
  • Trash items such as metal cans or glass bottles are not permitted as target materials.

Services and Programs:

The North Central Washington Gun Club provides services primarily for its members, with a focus on safety, education, and competition:

  • Membership: The club operates as a private, membership-required range. New members must attend a live, in-person orientation held monthly to familiarize themselves with club policies and safety procedures. There's an annual membership fee and an additional initiation/key card fee for new members. Memberships run from September 1st to August 31st and are family memberships, covering two adults and dependent children/grandchildren up to age 19. All members must display their badges on club property. Unaccompanied non-members will be asked to leave.
  • Junior Shooting Programs: The club is active in promoting youth participation, offering Junior Smallbore/Air Rifle programs, typically held indoors during colder months.
  • Competitions and Events: The NCW Gun Club hosts a variety of organized competitions and events throughout the year. These include:
    • 600-yard High Power Rifle practice: Structured yet informal practice sessions using electronic targets.
    • ISSA Steel Challenge matches: Fast-paced pistol shooting competitions.
    • NRL 22 club matches: A precision rimfire rifle competition.
    • Cowboy Action shooting (SASS club matches): A themed shooting sport involving various firearms.
    • The club also hosts Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) training events on a dedicated range.
  • Safety and Education: The mandatory new member orientation emphasizes safe firearm handling and range procedures.
  • Calendar: The club maintains a calendar of upcoming events and range closures, which is crucial for members to plan their visits.

The North Central Washington Gun Club is a significant resource for the shooting community in its region, providing extensive facilities and a structured environment for various shooting disciplines, with a strong emphasis on member engagement and safety.
