All about New Paltz Rod & Gun Club

Facilities & Ranges: The club boasts a variety of ranges:

  • Rifle Range: A 100-yard range with 4 covered shooting positions, sturdy benches, and movable target frames.
  • Trap Range: Three trap fields, including voice-activated throwers on one field, accommodating handicap shooters. A manual clay thrower is also available.
  • Pistol Range: An 8-position, heated, enclosed shooting house with a lit, 25-yard range suitable for non-magnum pistol and rimfire calibers.
  • Archery Range: A 50-yard archery field.

Beyond the ranges, the clubhouse features a full kitchen, bathrooms, a large meeting area, and a fireplace. The grounds include a camping area and access to the Wallkill River, along with ample parking and a covered pavilion.

Services & Programs: The New Paltz Rod & Gun Club is actively involved in local leagues, including the Ulster County Trap Circuit and the Ulster County Pistol League, and fields a team in the NYS SporteRifle league. They also run informal leagues for archery and practical shooting.

A notable service is their Youth Program, a bi-weekly summer event for young adults aged 12-17. This program covers .22 rifle shooting, trap shooting, archery, and fly fishing, with a strong emphasis on safety and one-to-one adult supervision.

Membership: Membership is open to new applicants and requires:

  • Annual dues and a one-time application fee.
  • Attendance at five monthly club meetings (except February).
  • Twenty hours of annual work contributions, which can include meeting attendance.
  • Non-Ulster County residents require a current club member sponsor.
  • Membership in an approved organization like the NRA or NYSRPA.

Upon meeting these requirements, applicants become probationary members with full facility access, gaining full membership after one year (or three years for non-residents).
