All about Melbourne International Shooting Club

Facilities and Ranges:

MISC boasts modern, state-of-the-art shooting facilities with ample off-road car parking. Its ranges cater to both small-bore rifle and pistol shooting at various distances:

  • 10-meter indoor range: Ideal for air rifle and air pistol disciplines.
  • 25-meter range: Suitable for a variety of pistol and some rifle events.
  • 50-meter range: Used for longer-distance pistol and small-bore rifle shooting.

The club continually plans upgrades to its target systems and infrastructure to maintain its international standard.

Disciplines Offered:

MISC focuses on a range of target shooting disciplines, with a strong emphasis on those recognized by international governing bodies, particularly the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). These include:

  • ISSF Pistol: This covers a wide range of single-handed pistol shooting, including 10m Air Pistol (.177 caliber) and various .22LR pistol events such as 25m Pistol, 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, 25m Centre Fire Pistol, and 25m Standard Pistol.
  • ISSF Rifle & TRA (Target Rifle Australia): This encompasses rifle disciplines like 10m Air Rifle, Prone Rifle, Bench Rest, and Three-Positional shooting.
  • Service Match: This discipline involves 9mm, .38, and .357 pistols and revolvers shot over various distances from 7 to 50 yards, often simulating scenarios relevant to service firearms.
  • WA 1500: A challenging and fast-paced match using revolvers and semi-automatic pistols shot from a holster, incorporating both close-range shooting and long-distance precision.
  • Combined Services (SSAA): This involves a variety of static shooting positions over distances of 7, 15, and 25 yards, using military or service firearms.
  • Cowboy Action Shooting (SASS): This unique discipline allows the use of single-action revolvers, lever-action rifles, and double-barrel shotguns, with an emphasis on historical firearms and period dress.

Services and Membership:

As a private, members-only club, MISC has a structured process for new memberships:

  • Membership Application: Prospective members need to register their interest to join the club.
  • Orientation Day: After registering interest, applicants are invited to an orientation day at the club to get familiar with the facilities and have their questions answered.
  • Membership Fees: There are various membership types, including Full Member, Partner Member, Junior Member, and Veteran Member, each with different annual fees and benefits. There is also typically a one-off joining fee.
  • Club Introduction Program: Licensed shooters who join must still attend a club introduction program that covers the club's specific rules and range orders.
  • Guidance for Licensing: While not explicitly a "come and try" facility for the general public, the club guides prospective members through the formalities of obtaining a firearms license in Victoria.
  • Competitions: The club regularly hosts competitions for its various disciplines, providing opportunities for members to compete and improve their skills.
  • Focus on Safety and Responsibility: MISC places a strong emphasis on a safe and welcoming environment, adhering to the Victorian Government's Fair Play Code and implementing policies such as Member Protection, Child Safety, and Privacy.

It's important to note that joining MISC requires commitment and adherence to a formal process, reflecting its dedication to a secure and high-standard shooting experience. The club does not generally offer public "come and try" sessions, as it is primarily for members engaging in competitive target shooting.
