All about Maury County Gun Club

Facilities and Ranges:

The MCGC boasts a wide array of ranges to accommodate different types of shooting:   

  • Shotgun Facilities:
    • Six skeet fields.   
    • Seven trap fields.   
    • An 13-station sporting clays course.   
    • A 5-station super sporting course.
    • A newly constructed 5-Stand.
    • A "shotgun backer board" is available at the Lower Pistol Range for shotgun use there.   
  • Pistol Ranges:
    • Three dedicated handgun ranges.   
    • These ranges are marked at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 yards.   
    • Each pistol range has a covered shelter with a concrete floor, shooting benches, and additional seating.   
    • Lower Pistol Range: Permits handguns, rimfire rifles, rifles chambered for pistol cartridges, and shotguns (using the railroad tie backer board). Full-auto firing is NOT permitted.   
    • Middle Pistol Range: Permits handguns, rimfire rifles, and rifles chambered for pistol cartridges. Center-fire rifles and shotguns are NOT allowed. Full-auto firing is NOT permitted.   
    • Upper Pistol Range: Permits handguns, rimfire rifles, and rifles chambered for pistol cartridges. Center-fire rifles and shotguns are NOT allowed. Full-auto firing is allowed on this pistol range only with pistol cartridges. Steel targets are limited to those provided by the MCGC.   
  • Rifle Range:
    • A 200-yard rifle range.   
    • Features target backers at 50, 100, and 200 yards.   
    • Includes a covered shelter, individual rifle rests with seats, and rifle racks.
    • Only rifles and muzzleloaders are permitted.
    • Only paper targets or silhouettes are allowed on the rifle range.

General Range Rules and Prohibitions:

  • No shooting glass or steel targets on most ranges (exceptions apply to provided steel targets on the Upper Pistol Range).
  • Full-auto firing is generally prohibited, with the exception of pistol cartridges on the Upper Pistol Range.
  • Targets must be positioned so that bullets strike the berm at the end of the range, not the ground in front of it. Targets should generally be at least 5 feet tall unless shooting from a prone position.
  • Prohibited targets include anything that will break, shatter, or leave non-perishable fragments (e.g., glass, computer screens, tractor tires).

Services and Activities:

The Maury County Gun Club provides a variety of services and hosts numerous events for its members and the wider shooting community:   

  • Safety and Training: The club teaches gun and hunter safety classes, including personal protection classes and classes for gun permit applicants. Trained club personnel supervise all range activities.   
  • Youth Programs: The MCGC provides facilities for scholastic shooting teams to practice and compete, demonstrating a strong commitment to youth involvement in shooting sports. They also teach gun safety classes to 4-H and Scout troops.   
  • Competitions and Leagues: The club has a robust calendar of competitive shooting events, including:
    • Fall and Spring Trap Leagues.
    • High Powered Rifle Monthly Matches.
    • Club Pistol Monthly Matches.
    • Silhouette Monthly Matches.   
    • American Trap Association (ATA) Monthly Shoots.   
    • National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) Claude Mays Skeet Shoots.   
    • Tennessee Sporting Clays Association (TSCA) Monthly Shoots.   
    • Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Events.   
    • They also host NRA-approved High Power matches.   
  • Membership: The club offers various membership options, including annual and lifetime memberships, with different fee structures based on the time of year or age for lifetime memberships. New members typically pay an initiation fee and yearly club membership dues. The Maury County Gun Club is a members-only facility for regular access, but also hosts public events and classes.   
  • Facility Rentals/Community Use: While primarily for members, the club's facilities are sometimes used for community events, such as sporting clays fundraisers hosted by local organizations.   

The Maury County Gun Club stands as a comprehensive and active shooting sports complex in Tennessee, emphasizing safety, community, and the development of shooting skills across multiple disciplines.
