Firearm and Range Rules:

General safety rules are paramount. All firearms must be treated as loaded, never pointed at anything unintended, and fingers kept off the trigger until ready to shoot. Specific rules apply to different ranges:

  • Ammunition Restrictions: Generally, buckshot or slug cartridges are restricted to the rifle or muzzle loader ranges. Metal targets often have a minimum distance requirement (e.g., 50 yards). Exploding targets, cans, bottles, CDs, tracers, armor-piercing, incendiary, or illumination ammunition are typically prohibited. Hand-loaded or privately loaded ammunition may also be prohibited.
  • Target Restrictions: Only intended targets like paper, bowling pins, balloons, and clays are allowed. Police-type silhouettes are acceptable, but representations of politicians, celebrities, or spouses are not. Targets should be placed where a miss will be stopped by a berm or backstop.
  • Shooting Practices: "Dual wielding" or "two-gun shooting" and uncontrolled rapid-fire are generally not permitted. Drawing from a holster is usually only allowed under the supervision of a certified Range Officer or instructor during designated times.
  • Caliber Restrictions (examples):
    • Pistols up to .44 Magnum may be permitted on shorter lanes (e.g., 15-yard lanes).
    • Rifles up to .308 caliber might be allowed on longer lanes (e.g., 25-yard and 50-yard lanes).
    • Rifles up to .50 BMG may be restricted to 100-yard lanes or longer.
    • Specific ranges may have restrictions, for example, the 25-yard Pistol Range is for handguns and smallbore rimfire rifles only, no other rifles.
    • Magnum rifles should generally be restricted to 300 meters and beyond on the Upper Rifle Range.
    • No firearms firing cartridges designed for material destruction or extreme distance are allowed.
  • Air Guns: The air gun range may have specific rules, such as being restricted to scheduled activities and requiring all air guns to shoot the equivalent of a .177 pellet at less than 600 fps.
  • Black Powder: Black powder firearms are allowed on designated ranges, but may be prohibited in certain areas like the clubhouse.
  • Safety Officers: Range Safety Officers (RSOs) are present, and their instructions must be followed.

Membership Information:

Membership is typically annual, and members must be 18 years of age or older. Family memberships are often available. New members may be required to attend an orientation briefing and pay an initiation fee in addition to annual dues. Membership renewals typically have a grace period. Members often receive benefits such as access to club events and facilities.
