Ranges and Disciplines:

The club supports a wide array of shooting disciplines, reflecting its diverse range offerings:

  • Pistol Shooting: This includes precision-focused disciplines like Bullseye (Conventional Pistol), as well as dynamic action shooting sports such as IPSC/USPSA (International Practical Shooting Confederation/United States Practical Shooting Association), IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association), and Steel Challenge. They also host a PPC (Police Pistol Combat) Pistol League.
  • Rifle Shooting: Disciplines include 100-yard, 300-yard, and 500-yard rifle shooting. They also offer NRL22, which is a rimfire precision rifle series, and AR Defensive Rifle/Patrol Rifle Skills and Qualifications.
  • Shotgun Shooting: The club provides facilities for Trap shooting and 5 Stand.
  • Archery: A dedicated 3D Archery Range is available.

Services and Membership:

The Howell Gun Club operates as a member/guest club, with specific procedures for becoming a member and utilizing the facilities.

  • Membership Application: Prospective members must submit a completed application, often requiring the signatures of two current Howell Gun Club members in good standing as sponsors. This sponsor requirement is waived for individuals holding a current Concealed Pistol License (CPL). A non-refundable application fee is also required.
  • Orientation Class: Accepted applicants are required to attend an orientation class. This covers club facts, bylaws, general and range rules, and a review of NRA gun safety rules. It also includes a tour of the club grounds and facilities.
  • Probationary Membership: After completing orientation, individuals become probationary members for one year. During this period, probationary members are required to complete 8 hours of approved volunteer work for the club (or pay a buy-out fee) and attend one club meeting.
  • Full Membership: Upon successful completion of the probationary period, and at the discretion of the Board of Directors, members gain full membership status with voting privileges after paying annual dues.
  • Family Membership: Membership typically includes the spouse and all children residing in the household under the age of eighteen, or until high school graduation/termination.
  • Public Access: While primarily a member club, the indoor pistol range is open to the public on specific days and times (e.g., Thursdays and Sundays) with a Range Safety Officer on duty. Trap shooting is also open to members and the public weekly.
  • Training and Events: The club hosts various events and offers training opportunities, including:
    • CPL Courses: For those seeking concealed pistol licenses.
    • NRA Women on Target Shooting Clinics: Programs designed to introduce women to shooting sports.
    • NRA Veterans on Target Day: Events tailored for veterans.
    • Youth Programs: Aligned with their mission to promote marksmanship and safety among youth.
    • Regularly scheduled competitions for various disciplines throughout the year.

The Howell Gun Club is a comprehensive shooting sports complex that provides a robust environment for diverse shooting interests, focusing on safety, skill development, and community engagement.
