All about Danville Rifle and Pistol Club
Ranges and Facilities:
The DRPC boasts well-equipped outdoor ranges for both rifle and pistol disciplines:
- Rifle Range: A significant feature is the long-distance rifle range, which includes 300-yard, 200-yard, 100-yard, and 50-yard berms, providing a variety of options for sighting and long-range practice.
- Pistol Range: There is a spacious covered 50-yard pistol line that can be used for distances from 3 yards up to 50 yards, accommodating both practical and concealed carry (CCW) practice.
- Shooting Bays: The club features six individual shooting bays, which are used for competitive shooting sports and allow for open shooting even during matches.
- Amenities: The facility includes a heated and air-conditioned clubhouse for members. All shooting venues are surfaced with gravel to avoid muddy conditions. The club also permits members to use personal or club-owned clay throwers for shotgun practice, although it does not have permanent trap or skeet installations.
Services and Membership:
The DRPC operates as a limited-membership private club, emphasizing safety and responsible firearm use.
- Membership: New members are accepted annually, typically in October, and are selected from a waiting list in the order that applications are received.
- Orientation and Qualification: Prospective members are required to attend a mandatory orientation and must successfully pass a minimum firearms skill and shooting qualifier to become a full member.
- Competitions: The club provides both recreational and competitive opportunities. It regularly hosts monthly competitive matches that are open to the public, including:
- Defensive Pistol (often a version of IDPA or a similar discipline).
- Tactical 2-Gun (a match involving both a rifle and a pistol).
