All about Central Okanagan Shotgun Sports Club
Facilities & Ranges:
COSSC offers a variety of shotgun sports disciplines, with dedicated ranges for each:
- Trap Fields: Two trap fields are available for traditional trap shooting, where targets are launched from a single trap house in front of the shooter.
- Skeet Fields: Two skeet fields cater to skeet shooting, involving targets launched from a high house and a low house across a semi-circular layout.
- 5-Stand Layout: This popular discipline uses multiple trap machines to present a variety of targets from five different shooting stations, simulating diverse hunting scenarios.
- Sporting Clays Course: Featuring 10 sporting clay stations, this course is designed to mimic various bird hunting situations, with targets presented at different angles and speeds. The club continues to expand its sporting clays offerings.
Services & Membership:
The club welcomes new members, particularly from the Kelowna area, who are interested in shotgun shooting or learning the sport. Experienced members are available to introduce newcomers to skeet, trap, or 5-stand. More advanced instruction can also be arranged.
Key services include:
- Instruction: Members offer guidance for new shooters.
- Events and Competitions: The club regularly hosts various shoots and competitions, including invitational events and championships.
- Safety Focus: Strict range safety rules are enforced, including mandatory ear and eye protection, and supervision for first-time shooters and juniors. All firearms must be proven safe at a "Safe House" before entering the range.
The COSSC emphasizes a safe and enjoyable environment for shotgun enthusiasts in the Okanagan region.
