All about Blue Hills Sporting Shooters Club

Facilities:

The Blue Hills Sporting Shooters Club boasts excellent modern facilities, designed for comfort and accessibility. Key features include:

  • A large, comfortable clubhouse with disabled access to the entire range complex.
  • A carpark and dedicated storage facilities.
  • A toilet block.
  • Onsite camping facilities are available, though without powered sites. Access to kitchen facilities (powered) is provided, but there are no shower facilities.

Ranges:

The club maintains a comprehensive range complex, catering to a variety of shooting disciplines. It features four separate ranges, extending from 25m up to 500m. Specific ranges include:

  • Ranges 1 and 2: These are co-located near the clubhouse and are suitable for pistol, rimfire rifle, and target archery. They feature fixed, bench-rest firing positions and standing pistol firing bays. Fixed lighting is available for night firing activities. The target range for these is limited to 200m.
  • Range 3: A dedicated, five-position "Down-The-Line" shotgun range with a remotely activated clay target machine. It can also accommodate a 5-stand layout with multiple, movable clay target machines.
  • Range 4: A simulated field shotgun range with multiple firing points using movable clay target throwers. This range is maintained in conjunction with the South East Field and Game Association.
  • Range 5: Located about 600m east of the clubhouse, this range is suitable for pistol, rimfire, and centrefire rifles. It features a covered firing area with hard-standing and includes fixed, bench-rest firing positions as well as areas for prone and standing firing. The target range here is limited to 500m.

Disciplines and Shooting Activities:

Blue Hills Sporting Shooters Club caters to a wide range of shooting disciplines, including:

  • Small bore (.22) rifle and pistol.
  • Centrefire pistol and rifle.
  • Various shotgun events, including Down-The-Line and 5-Stand.
  • Field and Target Archery events.
  • The club hosts various competitions, including state titles for disciplines like International Rimfire Bench Rest (IRB).

Services:

The club offers a range of services aimed at supporting its members and encouraging new participation:

  • "Come and Try" Days and Coaching: For beginners, the club provides assistance with firearm safe handling practices and informal technique coaching. They welcome non-licensed visitors and can assist them in applying for an exemption to shoot while they are in the process of obtaining their firearms license.
  • Membership: Prospective members need to be current SSAA members and hold an appropriate Australian firearms license. The club is open on designated range days, which can be found on their shoot calendar.
  • Range Officer Supervision: All shooting activities are conducted under the supervision of authorized Range Officers to ensure safety and adherence to rules.
  • A welcoming environment: The club emphasizes its commitment to being a friendly and non-judgmental place for all shooters and archers, fostering a supportive, safe, and legally compliant environment.
