All about Aurora Gun Club

Facilities:
The club boasts a 25-meter heated indoor range with 11 shooting ports, equipped with an air filtration system. Beyond the range, members have access to a clubhouse lounge, kitchen facilities, and a picnic area. The facility also offers ample free parking and a 24-hour security system, including a keyfob system for secure access.
Ranges and Disciplines:
While the Aurora Gun Club is predominantly a handgun club, it supports various shooting disciplines, with a focus on indoor pistol shooting. Firearms permitted include handguns up to .44 caliber (subject to approval and muzzle velocity under 1500 fps), pistol caliber rifles with muzzle velocity under 1500 fps, black powder firearms, and air pistols or rifles.
Ammunition permitted includes lead, jacketed, or semi-jacketed bullets, with a strict prohibition against steel core/military ammunition or any ammunition exceeding 1500 fps.
The club supports disciplines such as:
- Bullseye (Conventional Pistol): This discipline focuses on precision shooting at paper targets from a standing, unsupported, one-handed position.
- PPC (Police Pistol Combat): Evolved from police training, PPC involves engaging targets at varying distances, time constraints, and positions (kneeling, prone, standing, around a barricade).
- Prone Rifle: This includes Sporting Rifle Prone and Hunting Rifle Prone, both shot at 20 yards with .22 rifles, focusing on accuracy from a prone position.
- IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association): Introduced in September 2022, IDPA emphasizes practical shooting scenarios with everyday, conceal-carry firearms, combining threat/non-threat targets, dynamic movement, and shooting from cover.
Services and Membership:
The Aurora Gun Club is a members-only club with a membership cap. Prospective members typically go through an application process and may be placed on a waiting list. Membership often requires a current NRA membership. New members are required to attend an orientation covering club policies, rules, and a range tour. A background check is also typically required for new members and spouse cards.
The club provides a secure and comfortable environment for shooting enthusiasts. They may also host or participate in various shooting events and competitions throughout the year.
Safety Protocols:
Safety is paramount at the Aurora Gun Club. While specific detailed policies are typically outlined in their policy manual, general safety practices common to shooting ranges are observed. These include:
- Always keeping firearms pointed in a safe direction.
- Keeping fingers off the trigger until ready to shoot.
- Loading firearms only when in position and ready to shoot.
- Knowing your target and what is beyond it.
- Wearing eye and hearing protection within designated areas.
- Properly handling and storing firearms (unloaded, magazine out, visible empty chamber indicator) when not actively shooting.
- Prohibiting intoxicated individuals from handling firearms.
The club encourages a strong emphasis on responsible firearm use and adherence to safety guidelines.
