All about Annapolis Valley Shooting Sports Club

Facilities and Gun Ranges:

The AVSSC boasts a variety of ranges for different shooting disciplines, including:

  • Indoor Range (18m): This heated and ventilated range is suitable for archery, handguns, and .22 caliber rimfire rifles. It features a state-of-the-art ventilation system that exceeds minimum air change requirements.
  • Outdoor Ranges:
    • 100m Rifle and Shotgun (Slugs only) Range: An outdoor range with a covered shooting area.
    • 25m Handgun & Rifle (.22 cal Rimfire only) Range: An outdoor range with a covered shooting area and metal silhouettes.
    • Shotgun Skeet Fields (2): Dedicated outdoor skeet fields with throwers, allowing a maximum shot size of 7 1/2.
    • Shotgun Trap and Patterning Range: An outdoor range with a manual trap machine for trap shooting outside section hours. Maximum shot size 7 1/2.
    • 50m Archery, Black Powder, Cowboy Action Range: An outdoor range with a covered shooting area, specifically for primitive ignition black powder firearms and Cowboy Action Shooting firearms with reduced loads.
    • 90m Archery Range: A dedicated outdoor archery range.

Access and Membership:

The clubhouse, indoor range, and archery ranges are generally available 24/7 for members. Outdoor firearm ranges have specific hours: Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to sunset (no later than 8:00 PM), and Saturday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to sunset (no later than 8:00 PM).

Membership options include Family, Regular, and Junior memberships. New members typically undergo a probationary period, which involves completing training sessions to ensure safe shooting practices, attending an orientation, and demonstrating safety knowledge. Upon successful completion of probation, members receive 24-hour access to the clubhouse, indoor range, and archery range, along with a key to the club and a photo ID card.

The club encourages and promotes organized shooting activities for rifle, handgun, shotgun, black powder, and archery. They also offer education, instruction, and events to promote shooting sports safely for both new and experienced shooters.
