All about Androscoggin Valley Fish & Game
Ranges and Facilities:
The AVFGA provides a versatile range for its members and the public, generally open from 9:00 a.m. until sunset. The facility includes:
- Rifle Range: A fixed target range with distances of 50 yards and 100 yards.
- Pistol Range: A dedicated 25-yard range, ideal for handguns, .22 caliber plinking, or initial rifle sighting-in.
- Shotgun Ranges: Facilities for Trapshooting and Five-Stand shooting.
The club also has a clubhouse and may offer limited Archery facilities.
Services and Programs:
The association is deeply involved in community and conservation efforts, offering various programs:
- Youth Shooting Sports: The club proudly sponsors free 4-H Youth Shooting Sports programs, including rifle, archery, and shotgun (trap shooting) instruction, focusing on safety and marksmanship for youth aged 10-18. All necessary equipment and ammunition are provided for these instructional courses.
- Hunter Education: The range is a crucial part of the "Hands on ~ Field Day" portion of the Hunter Education program.
- Competitions: The club hosts regular events, such as a .22LR Pill Shoot and other trap and archery leagues.
- Membership: The club offers annual passes for access to its range. Membership renewal and new applications require a simple process.
The AVFGA serves a vital role in the region by supporting shooting sports, promoting safe firearm use, and engaging in local conservation efforts. The club does not, however, rent firearms or offer personal defensive courses.
